ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team didn't disappoint its fans in the team's first home match of the season Friday night.
CSB – which played its first 11 matches of 2017 on the road – swept Hamline 3-0 in front of a rowdy home crowd in Claire Lynch Hall. CSB dominated every offensive category en route to 25-16, 25-18 and 25-17 wins.
The win pushes Saint Benedict's record back to .500 at 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC.
CSB's offense was on Friday night. The team finished with 51 kills to Hamline's 23, and 49 assists to the Pipers' 23. Saint Benedict also finished the night with a .327 hitting percentage to the Pipers' .117. Hamline hung with CSB early in each of the three sets, but Saint Benedict was able to use its offense to pull away for the sweep.

Hunter Weiss finished with a career-high 17 kills to lead Saint Benedict and senior
Briana Schmiesing added 13 kills and
Lauren Mathews finished with nine.
Megan Pekarek led the way with 42 assists, and
Madison Weiss had a team-high five block assists. Defensively,
Haley LaValle had 13 digs and
Liz Schultz finished with 12.
Cass Bittle led Hamline (3-13, 0-3) with 10 kills and Morgen Coleman had 14 assists. Megan Anderson led the Pipers' defense with nine digs.
Saint Benedict is back in action and back at home Tuesday, Sept. 26, when it hosts St. Scholastica in a nonconference matchup at 7 p.m. in Claire Lynch.
