ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team wrapped up 2016-17 with a 7-2 MIAC win over Hamline University Saturday evening in St. Paul, Minn.
CSB finishes 2016-17 10-13 overall and 3-7 and in eighth in the MIAC. Ten wins in a season is the most for the program since finishing 11-8 overall in 2012-13.
"Everyone has so much to be proud of not only this match, but the entire season," CSB head coach
Michael Engdahl said. "We have an amazing group to build off of this season, and I am already counting down the days until next fall. There are nothing but great things ahead for everyone on this team and this program moving forward."
Saint Benedict started the day by winning two of three doubles matches to take a lead on the Pipers (2-14, 1-9).
Tessa Rahrick and
Ellen Stensrud fell 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, but
Kylie Miller and
Erin Kolbow won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles and
Gabbie Noack and
Lauren Clark won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles to put CSB up 2-1.
Rahrick won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and Kolbow picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, and both Stensrud and Clark picked up tiebreaker wins in singles play. Stensrud won 1-6, 6-3, 10-5 at No. 3 singles, and Clark won 2-6, 7-5, 10-5 at No. 4. Noack lost at No. 5 singles, but
Ashley Kraemer won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles for CSB.
Saint Benedict doesn't lose a single player from its 2016-17 roster to graduation heading into Engdahl's second season with the program in 2017-18.
