ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team continues the MIAC season this Saturday, Feb. 11, when it hosts Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Joseph. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at Claire Lynch Hall as CSB looks to improve on its 9-6 conference record.
Saturday marks the last regular-season home game for Saint Benedict, and will also serve as senior day and parent recognition day.
About Gustavus
Gustavus is 21-1 overall and 14-1 in the MIAC and ranked 16
th in Division III heading into Saturday's game. The Gusties' latest game was an 81-47 win at St. Olaf on Wednesday night. Mikayla Miller leads the MIAC in several categories, she is second in with 17.3 points per game, second with 47 made three-pointers, first with an 86.0 free throw percentage, second with 100 assists, and is first with 72 steals. Miranda Rice is third in the league with 16.9 points per game and is second with a 59.8 field goal percentage.
Last Matchup
CSB and Gustavus faced off once already this season, and the Gusties won the matchup. On Jan. 7, CSB lost 71-50 in St. Peter.
Niki Fokken led the team with 13 points and had two blocks in the loss. CSB was out rebounded 39-20, which led to a 16-2 advantage in second-chance points. The Blazers also struggled at the free-throw line going 7-12, compared to the Gusties 15-17. Saint Benedict went 1-2 against Gustavus last season.

Chelsey Guetter leads the team with 10.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and Fokken averages 9.1 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game. Fokken is second in the MIAC with 42 blocks this season. Saint Benedict heads into Saturday's game after a 55-64 loss at Augsburg on Wednesday night. Guetter scored 11 points and had 14 rebounds in the loss. The Blazers had 26 turnovers and blew an 11-point second quarter lead. CSB is currently alone in fourth in the MIAC with three games left in the regular season and has a one-game lead on St. Catherine.
The Storyline
CSB has just one loss at home this season, and looks to defend its home court for the final time in the regular season on Saturday. CSB, which got off to a hot start to the 2016-17 season, also looks to stay in the hunt for a home MIAC playoff game with a win this weekend. Gustavus, on the other hand, has already clinched a spot in the six-team postseason tournament, but looks to keep a hold of second place. Looking ahead, CSB will be back on the for a conference game Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m., when traveling to Hamline University.
