ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team is hoping to end their fall season on a high note, as they wrap up the semester on Wednesday night when they travel to Hamline for a 7 p.m. game in St. Paul.
About Hamline
Hamline enters the match with a 2-5 overall record, and a 1-2 mark in the MIAC. The Pipers are hoping to get back in the win column after falling to Gustavus 82-50 last weekend. Despite outrebounding the Gusties, Hamline struggled to recover after allowing GAC to get out to a quick 22-11 lead in the first quarter. Hamline is led offensively by sophomore Reilly Geistfeld, who has 73 points and 44 rebounds on the season.
Last Year
CSB swept the Pipers last year, winning both of the meetings between the two teams.
Niki Fokken put up 21 points, on her 21
st birthday even, to lead CSB to a 58-47 win in January last season. Chelsea Guetter led the way when CSB headed to St. Paul to face the Pipers, putting up 12 points in route to Saint Benedict's 18-point win, 66-48.
Who to Watch
The senior class continues to lead the way for CSB, as Guetter, Fokken, and
Kate Banovetz are paving the way for a huge season for CSB. Fokken leads the team offensively averaging 13.8 points per game, followed by Guetter at 9.2, and Banovetz with 6.2. Guetter heads up the pack defensively, pulling 73 rebounds this season, followed by Fokken's 48 boards.
Storyline
CSB's lone loss on the season came at Claire Lynch Hall, meaning they are looking to move their 1-0 record on the road to 2-0. Wednesday's game marks only the second that Hamline has hosted for the season, falling Dec. 2 at home to St. Thomas 76-56. Saint Benedict is also hoping to keep their winning streak against the Pipers alive. CSB has not lost a game against Hamline since January of 2011, when they fell 77-58 in St. Paul.
