CSB returns home to host Concordia

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team gets back to the conference season this week at home in Claire Lynch Hall. The Blazers play Concordia College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, in St. Joseph.
 
About Concordia
The Cobber's head into the matchup 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC, including a 55-41 loss against St. Olaf in their last game of 2016 on Dec. 10. Concordia is coming off a 2015-16 season where it went 18-9 overall and 13-5 in the MIAC. Greta Walsh is fourth in the MIAC with 16.2 points per game and has 22 steals. Jenna Januschka averages 11.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
 
Last Year
Saint Benedict split the two games against Concordia last year. CSB won 64-44 on Jan. 9 in Minneapolis and lost 61-50 at home on Feb. 13. On Jan. 9, the Blazers shot 52.2 percent with five players scoring in double figures compared to Cobbers shooting 30.2 percent with 22 turnovers. On Feb. 13, the Blazers were outrebounded 34-27 and outshot 47.8 percent to 37.3 percent in the loss. The Cobbers finished the season with a loss in the semifinals of the MIAC tournament to St. Thomas.
 
Who to Watch
Through 11 games, Chelsey Guetter leads the team with 9.5 points per game followed by Niki Fokken with 9.2 points per game, and Guetter averages 7.6 rebounds per game. Fokken and Alex Johnson are tied for third in the MIAC with 13 blocks this season.
 
The Storyline
Saint Benedict opened the 2016-17 season with seven straight wins, but has lost its last four games. CSB looks to get back on track and stay undefeated at home with a win over Concordia.   Looking ahead CSB will be on the road for another conference game Saturday, Jan. 7, when it travels to Gustavus at 1 p.m.
