BLAINE, Minn. –
Maddie Rainey scored the first goal of her senior season Friday night, but it wasn't enough for the College of Saint Benedict hockey team in its 4-1 loss to Bethel. The Royals scored two first-period goals and added one in both the second and third periods to pick up the win in Blaine, Minn.
The Royals (7-7-2, 4-3-2) scored the first goal of the game three minutes in to go up 1-0. Bethel added a second goal in the eighth minute to make it 2-0, but Rainey made it a one-goal game at the 14:46 mark of the first period when she scored off assists from
Katie Cristan and
Maddie Dockry.
The Royals took their two-goal lead back in the second minute of the second period, and wrapped up the scoring in the 13
th minute of the fourth period.
Saint Benedict, which is 3-13 overall and 0-9 in the MIAC, outshot Bethel 32-30, but was unable to take advantage of five power play opportunities.
Amy Jost made 26 saves for CSB, and Bethel goalie Michelle Klimstra had 31 saves.
Bethel and CSB return to action at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the MAC in St. Cloud.
