Three second-period goals lift Hamline past CSB

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team snagged an early lead on Hamline Wednesday night, but the Pipers tallied three second-period goals to come away with the 3-1 win in a makeup game in St. Cloud.

Mollie Wise scored the first goal of the game Wednesday for Saint Benedict in a game that was originally scheduled to be played in November, but was postponed due to weather and poor driving conditions. The goal, which came at 11:58 of the first period, was assisted by Kylie Eklund and Maddie Dockry.

That lead held until the fifth minute of the second when Bre Simon scored for Hamline on the power play. The Pipers (7-7-1, 5-3) then scored two more goals within 40 seconds of each other to take a 3-1 lead that would hold the rest of the game. The first goal came at the 11:18 mark and the second at 12:38.

CSB (3-12, 0-8) finished with 13 shots on net to Hamline's 26. Elli Marvin led the team with two shots on net. Julia Carle had 23 saves for Saint Benedict.

CSB is back in action Friday and Saturday against Bethel. The two teams play Friday in Arden Hills, and Saint Benedict is back in St. Cloud at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.
