Jarvi, Pomerenke earn spot in record books

ST. PAUL, Minn. – A pair of divers made it into the record books for the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team Friday afternoon.
 
Mallory Jarvi made her way into the top 10 in CSB history in both the one- and three-meter dives and Maggie Pomerenke earned a spot in the record books in the one-meter competition Friday to help the team to a win over Hamline in St. Paul, Minn. Saint Benedict won the MIAC dual 176-64 to improve to 2-1 in dual meets this season.
 
Jarvi won both the one- and three-meter competitions. She started the day with a win in the one-meter competition with a 226.85, the fourth-best mark in CSB history, and went on to win the three-meter competition with a score of 231.15 – the third-best score in school history. Pomerenke finished second in the one-meter competition with a mark of 221.10, the fifth-best mark in school history. Kelsey Christensen also finished third in the three-meter competition with a score of 128.95.
 
Ashley Groebner and Amy Nemanich both picked up a pair of individual wins for CSB, and Groebner was also part of a winning relay. Nemanich won the 1,000 freestyle in 11:31.08 and the 500 freestyle in 5:41.07. Groebner finished first in the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.17), and teamed up with Sydney Weires, Skyler Clough and Katie Heller to win the 200 medley relay in 1:55.04.
 
Morgan Murphy took second in the 1,000 (11:56.65) and Kenzie Young finished third (12:10.95). Kassandra Chronakos took second in the 500 free (5:45.51) and Lauren Christiansen finished third (5:45.82). Grace Livermore finished second behind Groebner in the 200 IM, and also won the 100 butterfly in 1:06.56. Brenna Sharp took third in the 100 fly in 1:07.05.
 
Kayla Albers took second behind Groebner in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.63) and Kaylee O'Connell took third in 1:16.26. Meghan Kratz and Heller also picked up individual wins for CSB. Kratz took first in the 100 freestyle in 57.37 seconds and Heller won the 50 free in 26.13 seconds. Kratz took second in the 50 free (26.63) and Kristina Rudin took second in the 100 free (57.92).
 
Allie Crum took second in the 200 free (2:06.82) and Julia Newhouse finished third (2:07.92), and Weires took second in the 100 back (1:04.70) and Allyson Lidtke finished third (1:05.61). Lidtke, Crum, Chronakos and Kratz teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.45 and Marissa Behounek, Livermore, Lynnae Boe and Stephanie Brenk took third in 1:50.29. Emma Ridgeway, Albers, Larissa Kleen and Lidtke finished second in the 200 medley relay and Christiansen, O'Connell, Rudin and Lauren Noel took third (2:01.01).
 
Saint Benedict returns to action Saturday, Jan. 14, when it travels back to St. Paul for St. Thomas' Meet of the Saints.
