ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team continues the MIAC season this Wednesday, Jan. 11, when it travels to Saint Paul, Minn., to play Macalester. Game time is set for 7 p.m. as CSB battles to stay near the top of the conference.
About the Scots
Macalester is 8-5 overall and 2-4 in the MIAC heading into Wednesday's game. The Scots' latest game was an 82-78 victory at St. Olaf Saturday afternoon. Regan Fruh leads the team with 14.6 points per game and is fifth in the league in rebounding at 8.0 rebounds per game. Leah Gray has recorded 14 blocks this season, good for fourth in the MIAC. Macalester is coming off a 2015-16 season where it went 8-17 overall and 3-15 in the MIAC.
Last Season
CSB and Macalester faced off two times last season, and the Blazers won both of those contests. Saint Benedict won the first matchup of the season 63-56 in overtime in St. Joseph thanks to 17 points and 12 rebounds from Niki Fokken and 10 points from Macy Kelly. CSB won 65-51 later in the season in St. Paul thanks to 14 points and eight rebounds from Kelly, and 27 points from the bench.
About CSB
Guetter leads the team with 9.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and Niki Fokken averages 8.9 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game. Fokken is second in the MIAC with 16 blocks this season.
The Storyline
CSB is undefeated at home this season, but has struggled on the road. Saint Benedict is 1-5 in road contests this season, and looks to pick up another big road win Wednesday at Macalester. CSB, which got off to a hot start to the 2016-17 season, also looks to stay near the top of the conference and knock the Scots down a column in the MIAC standings. Looking ahead, CSB will be back home for another conference game Saturday, Jan. 14, when it hosts St. Mary's at 3 p.m.
