WAVERLY, Iowa. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team picked up its first loss of the season Sunday afternoon. After a scoreless first half, CSB gave up a pair of second-half goals and fell 2-0 to No. 18 Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
Both teams had plenty of changes in the first half as CSB had six shots on net and
Heather Kaluzniak made four saves, but the game was tied 0-0 at halftime. Wartburg came out of the halftime break and scored five minutes into the second half when Alyssa Drewelow got the ball past first-year goalie

Saint Benedict (3-1-1) had five more shots in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net. Kaluzniak came back in for the final 25 minutes of action, and she gave up a goal in the 75
th minute when Alyssa Christopher scored in a breakaway to make it 2-0.
Wartburg (3-0-1) outshot CSB 17-12, including 11-9 in shots on net.
Olivia Musser and
Jane Koch both had two shots on net to lead CSB. Kaluzniak finished with seven saves and Koenen added two.
Saint Benedict is off now until next Saturday and Sunday when it hits the road again for a pair of games. CSB opens conference play Saturday, Sept. 17 at Saint Mary's, and wraps up its nonconference schedule Sunday, Sept. 18, at UW-River Falls.
