ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team had a tough loss to Bethel last week, but CSB looks to get back on track Wednesday at Macalester.
With a record of 13-6, the Blazers will be on the road to take on the Macalester Scots for their ninth consecutive MIAC game. The game takes places at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, in St. Paul.
About the Scots: The Scots started out their season with a record of 4-2 in non-conference play through their first six games. From there they have gone 3-10 and are 2-10 in conference play. The Scots will be heading into the game against the Blazers coming off of an 86-49 loss to Gustavus Adolphus and looking to snap a four-game losing streak.
Last Meeting: The Blazers beat the Scots 63-56 in overtime on Jan. 6 at CSB in the two teams' first meeting this year. The Scots got out to an early lead, and led 15-13 after the first quarter, but the Blazers got hot in the second half and overtime to get a win.
Niki Fokken led CSB with 17 points and
Ke'Avae Taylor added 14 more points.
The Storyline: The Blazers have now won six of their last eight games, all against conference opponents. They will be looking to improve their road record of 7-2. Macalester will be heading into this matchup having lost their last four games. The Blazers will be looking to improve their MIAC record of 8-4. CSB is fifth in the MIAC with six games left.
What to Watch:
Niki Fokken currently leads the Blazers with 10.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
Annie Dittberner averages another 8.8 points per game and
Alison Newton averages 2.8 assists per game.
Grace Wolhowe is currently leading the MIAC with a .482 three-point percentage.
Last Time Out: In their last game, the Blazers lost to Bethel by a score of 55-50. In the first quarter, both teams shot poorly and the quarter ended 11-10 with Bethel up by one. The Blazers out-played the Royals and took the lead in the second quarter, and went into the locker rooms up 29-26. The Blazers and Royals entered the final quarter tied with a score of 39-39. In the fourth quarter, the Blazers missed seven free throws and Bethel had 14 points off the bench. In a hard-fought matchup, Bethel handed the Blazers a loss with a final score of 55-50. Fokken led the team with 14 points and had eleven rebounds. Dittberner added 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
