ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team wrapped up its weekend series with Saint Mary's with a 3-0 loss to the Cardinals Saturday afternoon at the MAC in St. Cloud.
The loss came on senior day for the Blazers, as the team recognized
Dory Johnson,
Aly Hoffman,
Liz Hermes and
Siri Berg-Moberg for their four years with the program. Johnson got the start in net and finished the game with 18 saves.
She made eight saves in the first period to keep SMU off the board, and the Cardinals stopped the Blazers' 12 shots to keep the game scoreless after one period. Saint Mary's got on the board four minutes into the second period with a short-handed goal by McKenna Parent. She got the puck on a breakaway and shoveled it over Johnson to make it 1-0 at the 3:55 mark of the second.
The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead into the third period thanks to another second-period goal, this one with less than three minutes remaining. Lindsay Paschke took a pass from Katie LeTourneay and put it past Johnson at the 17:21 mark.
The score stayed 2-0 early in the third, but Maddy Wallraff made it 3-0 when she got a hold of a rebound after Johnson made a save and put it in the back of the net to make it 3-0.
CSB and Saint Mary's both finished with 21 shots on net.
Elli Marvin led CSB with five shots on net and
Brigette Miller added four. The Blazers won 29 faceoffs compared to the Cardinals' 14, but CSB failed to take advantage of five Cardinal penalties and went 0-5 on the power play.
With two games left in the regular season, the Blazers are alone in seventh with 12 points in the conference and a 7-14-2 overall record and a 5-9-2 mark in the MIAC. The Cardinals moved into fifth and are 9-11-3 overall and 8-6-2 in the MIAC. The top five teams make the conference tournament, which starts Feb. 25.
