ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team lost to conference opponent St. Catherine earlier this week, and CSB looks to get back on track Saturday on the road. With a record of 14-8, the Blazers will be in Moorhead to take on the Concordia College Cobbers for their 12th consecutive MIAC game. The game takes places at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, in Moorhead.
About the Cobbers: The Cobbers started out their season with a record of 4-3 through the non-conference season. From there, they have gone 11-4 in conference play. The Cobbers will be heading into the game against the Blazers coming off of a 47-34 conference win at Hamline. Olivia Johnson is third in the MIAC averaging 8.5 rebounds per game.
Last Time Out: The Blazers beat Concordia earlier this season 64-44 on Jan. 9 in Claire Lynch Hall in the two teams' first meeting of the season. The Blazers ended the first half up by 36-21, and cruised to a 20-point victory.
Alison Newton led the Blazers with 12 points in a game where four of five starters scored in double figures. The Storyline: The Blazers have now gone 9-6 thus far through the MIAC season. They will be looking to improve their away record of 8-3. Concordia will be heading into this matchup coming off of a win at Hamline, and are 7-1 in its last eight games. CSB is sixth in the MIAC with three games remaining in the season.
What to Watch:
Niki Fokken currently leads the Blazers with 10.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Annie Dittberner averages another 8.5 points per game and
Newton averages 2.5 assists and 8.6 points per game.
Grace Wolhowe is currently third in the MIAC with a .446 three-point percentage.
Last Time Out: In their last game, the Blazers lost to St. Catherine by a score of 57-56. In the first half, the Blazers turned the ball over 14 times compared to the Wildcats seven and trailed 27-24 going into the locker rooms. The Wildcats shot well in the second half, and the Blazers turned entered the final quarter trailing 46-36. The Blazers outscored the Wildcats 20-11 in the fourth quarter, but the Blazers comeback came up one point short. Fokken led the Blazers with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Chelsey Guetter added 10 points and Newton added another nine.
