About the Cardinals:
At the end of an up and down season, the Cardinals are currently sitting sixth in the MIAC standings. Although the Cardinals have a losing record, they also have played one of the toughest schedules of any MIAC team, including a stretch of four-straight games against the No. 4 and No. 3 teams in the country. They boast the MIAC's fourth-strongest defense, giving up only 2.01 goals per game.
Â
Storyline:
While the Cardinals are sixth in the MIAC, the Blazers currently sit just two points behind them in seventh place in the MIAC. At the end of the season, six teams will make the MIAC playoffs. Both teams have just four games left to put themselves on the inside of the playoff bubble. Needless to say, the outcome of this weekend will have a sizable impact on each team's playoff chances.
Â
Last Year:
In 2014, the Blazers traveled to Winona and played both games on the road. The Cardinals swept both games in that series. In the Friday game, the Blazers took a 2-1 lead off goals by Aly Hoffman and Stephanie Kirk, but lost the game 3-2. On Saturday, the Cardinals beat the Blazers by an 0-2 margin.
