ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team's offense continued to click Saturday afternoon as it scored seven goals for the second straight day to beat Northland College 7-1 at Dave Torrey Arena in St. Cloud, Minn.
Goalie
Julia Carle also had a big game in her first collegiate start. The sophomore transfer made 21 saves to pick up her first win in the first start of her Saint Benedict career.
CSB (2-0) scored early and often Saturday. Senior
Elli Marvin, who had a hat trick Friday night in CSB's 7-4 win, added her fourth goal of the weekend in the fourth minute to put CSB up 1-0. Sophomore
Shelby Schneider scored a minute later, and
Stephanie Kirk scored on the power play in the 12
th minute to make it 3-0. Marvin assisted on Kirk's goal to finish the weekend with five total points.
First year
Mollie Wise wrapped up the first-period scoring with the third goal of her CSB career off an assist from
Brigette Miller. There was no scoring in the second period, and Northland started the scoring in the third period in the seventh minute. Kirk scored her second goal of the game in the eighth minute to make it 5-1, and Miller scored a short-handed goal in the 13
th minute to put Saint Benedict up 6-1.
CSB ended the scoring with just over 30 seconds left to play when first year
Erica Borrell scored the first goal of her college career off an assist from
Maddie Dockry.
Saint Benedict, which had 57 shots Friday, added 52 more to its season total Saturday. Carle had 21 saves in her first outing and Northland goalie Maggie Cusey made 45 saves in her first collegiate start.
Saint Benedict is off now until Nov. 11-12 when it hosts Concordia in a pair of neutral-site games. The two play at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in Sartell, Minn., and at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, in Alexandria, Minn.
