ST. CLOUD, Minn. –
Elli Marvin got her senior season with the College of Saint Benedict hockey team started off right Friday night.
Marvin recorded the first hat trick of her collegiate career to help lead CSB past Northland College 7-4 at the MAC in St. Cloud. First year
Mollie Wise scored a pair of goals in her first game in a CSB jersey and
Natalie Roberts and
Brigette Miller each added a goal for CSB.
Friday's game marked the first-ever varsity women's hockey game for Northland, which is in its first year of existence.
Marvin got the scoring started in the 11
th minute of the first period, scoring an unassisted power play goal. Wise scored the first goal of her career less than 30 seconds later in the 12
th minute off a pass from
Katie Cristan to make it 2-0, and Miller put Saint Benedict up three with less than a minute left in the first period off an assist from
Kacee Medved.
Wise started the scoring in the second period with a power play goal on an assist from
Maddie Dockry in the 11
th minute. Marvin added her second goal of the game in the 13
th minute off assists from
Hannah Esselman and
Kylie Kramer, and the Lumberjills scored the first goal in program history in the 14
th minute to make it 5-1.
Marvin completed her hat trick 25 seconds in to the third period off an assist from
Allison Kirk to put CSB up 6-1.
Natalie Roberts added her first goal of the season and the second of her career in the third minute off an assist from Esselman, and Northland wrapped up the game with three third-period goals by three different players.
Saint Benedict finished the night with 57 shots on net to Northland's 19. Sophomore goalie
Angel Hillstrom made 15 saves, and Chloe Marshall made 50 saves in her collegiate debut for Northland.
CSB and Northland play again at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the MAC.
