ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – As the 2016 soccer season heads into the final three weeks of the regular season, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team hits the road for a game at Gustavus Tuesday afternoon. The MIAC matchup starts at 4 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
About the Gusties
Last year, Gustavus surprised the MIAC by finishing second in the league standings and winning the conference tournament to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. This year, the Gusties are 5-4-2 overall and 2-4 heading into the final stretch of the regular season. Gustavus enters Tuesday's game looking to snap a two-game losing streak. Maddison Ackiss leads the team with three goals and Jana Elliott has four assists. Ashley Becker has played 11 games in the net and has 51 saves.
Last Year
The Gusties beat CSB 1-0 last season in St. Joseph. Gustavus scored the game's only goal in the 83
rd minute.
Who to Watch
Taylor Hedin notched her ninth goal of the season Saturday against Bethel and
Brooke DeMets scored her third goal of the year against the Royals. Hedin is tied for second in the league in goals and points (24), and sophomore
Jane Koch is second on the team with six goals. Senior keeper
Heather Kaluzniak is second in the MIAC with 60 saves to her name in 12 games played.
The Storyline
With just five games left in the regular season, both CSB and Gustavus are looking to make a push end the season on a high note. Saint Benedict is tied for fourth in the league and is looking to stay in the top six and earn a spot in the conference championships, and Gustavus is looking to pick up a few wins and sneak into the top six. Hedin and Koch have been a powerful one-two punch for CSB on offense, and the duo looks to add to their scoring total this season.
