St. Cloud, Minn. -- The College of Saint Benedict hockey team (3-7-1, 1-4-1 MIAC) opened 2016 with a 0-4 loss at the hands of St. Norbert College (9-4, 5-3 NCHA) today (Jan. 9th). The Green Knights played the puck around evenly all game, with seven St. Norbert players recording a point in the game. The Green Knight's also outshot the Blazers 45-15, which is the most shots a team has put up on the Blazers this season.

St. Norbert scored their first goal just 53 seconds into the game, when Lauren Roethlisberger took a pass from Kylie Gazzolo and sniped it past Blazer goalie Angel Hillstrom. That goal was  Roethlisberger's sixth of the year.

The Blazers held the Green Knights scoreless for the rest of that first period and the entirety of the second period, but were unable to find the equalizer on several scoring opportunities. In the second period, the Blazers successfully killed four penalties, including a short time with the Green Knights on a 5-3 powerplay, to stay one goal behind. The Green Knights outshot the Blazers 21-5 in that period.

St. Norbert struck again early in the third period, when Reaghan scored her eighth goal of the year to give the Green Knights a 2-0 lead. That goal was also assisted by Gazzolo. Rachael Goodrow and Mryanda Hayes added goals for St. Norbert late in the period, and they went on to win 4-0.

The silver lining for the Blazers was a good game from their rookie goaltender, Angel Hillstrom. She set a new career high by stopping 41 of the Green Knights 45 shots.
The Blazers return to action tomorrow (Jan. 10th) when they will host the Green Knights in the second game of the series. Faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
