Miller scores CSB’s lone goal in loss to Green Knights

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team picked up its defense Saturday afternoon, but the Blazers fell 2-1 to St. Norbert College in the second game of the weekend series at the MAC in St. Cloud.

After giving up 45 shots on goal Friday in a 4-0 loss, the Blazers allowed the Green Knights 23 shots on net in Saturday's one-goal loss. Senior goalie Dory Johnson made 21 saves to keep Saint Benedict (3-8-1) in the game.

St. Norbert (10-4) started the scoring midway through the first period on a power play goal by Jessica Sherman. The Blazers got called for tripping at the 10:21 mark, and Sherman scored 30 seconds later on a shot from just inside the blue line that went over Johnson's shoulder.

The score stayed at 1-0 until the second period when Brigette Miller took the puck into the Knights' zone and shoveled the puck over the skate of SNC goalie Leigh Grall. St. Norbert scored the game-winner at the 5:16 mark of the third period when Lauren Roethlisberger snuck the puck past Johnson in the corner of the net.

The Blazers had five power-play opportunities – including three in the third period – but couldn't capitalize. Saint Benedict finished with 15 shots on net, including four from Miller.

CSB plays one more nonconference game Wednesday, Jan. 13, when it travels to River Falls, Wis., to take on UW-River Falls. The Blazers return to MIAC play Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15-16, against St. Olaf. The Blazers are on the road Friday in Northfield and host the Oles at 3 p.m. Saturday.
