ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hit the ground running in 2015-16, and spent the fall semester working to build support for the Blazers within the different teams and the athletic department.

From Sports Center making a visit to campus to Big Days and volunteering to the new Blazer Bowl, CSB athletes spent the semester cheering each other on and building team and school spirit.

There was a change in leadership in December as Dr. Mary Stenson stepped down as co-chair. Taking her place is CSB softball coach Rachael Click. Click and Erin Ross, the Blazers' assistant athletic trainer, serve as co-chairs for the committee.

9237The year started out with Sports Center on the Road coming to the Johnnie/Tommie football game in September, and the Blazer teams were in red, ready to meet the crew and their bus when they reached Collegeville. After the big pep rally, the teams came to Claire Lynch for volleyball's Big Day. Support from the different teams helped the Blazers beat the Royals 3-2 in a huge MIAC matchup.

Blazer athletes came out to Big Days for soccer, cross country and swimming and diving, and cheered their fellow CSB athletes on against the competition. To kick off the winter season, the CSB hockey team volunteered to skate with a group of young hockey players. The Blazers set up drills and taught future Blazers the fundamentals of the game.

As has been tradition for the past few years, SAAC encourages everyone to wear red on Fridays to show support for all Blazer athletes, and kicked off the #OnFridaysWeWearRed campaign on Twitter.

Upcoming events for CSB's SAAC includes Blazer Buddies on Jan. 16 in the Clemens Field House, basketball's Big Day on Feb. 6, Zumbathon on Feb. 12, hockey's Big Day Feb. 13 and track and field's Big Day on April 9. Big Days for tennis and softball haven't been scheduled yet.
