CSB looks for second straight win against Morris

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team is back at home Tuesday night for its second home game of the season. The Blazers face off against the University of Minnesota-Morris, and look to even up their record, which currently sits at 1-2. The match will be played in Claire Lynch Hall and will begin at 7 p.m.
 
About the Cougars: After a 23-12 season last year, the Cougars have come back strong in their first five matches this season. They currently sit with a record of 4-1 after losing their first match of the season to Bethel by a score of 3-2. Since that loss, the Cougars have won all 12 sets that they have played and come to St. Joseph with some early-season momentum.
 
Last Year: Last season, the Blazers faced the cougars in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tournament and walked away with a 3-0 win. The Blazers started the night with a 25-12 win in the first set and followed with 25-14 and 25-15 wins in the next two sets. Laura Schmitt led the offense with 10 kills and four aces.
 
The Storyline: The Blazers are looking to capitalize on their opportunity to get their first home win of the season after falling to the University of Northwestern in their first match of the season. They will also be looking to start a winning streak after finishing the Northwestern Tournament with a 3-1 win over Loras College on Saturday. The Cougars will also be looking to continue their winning streak, which sits at four straight matches.
 
Who to Watch: Senior Laura Schmitt currently leads the Blazers with 33 kills and sits with 2.75 kills per set. Meghan Koop is also averaging 2.08 kills per set and leads the team with 51 digs. Lauren Mathews is also leading the team with 11 blocks and Mary Franz adds nine more.
 
Last Time Out: After falling short in their first two matches of the season, the Blazers fought back to take a 3-1 win over Loras College on Saturday. After a 21-25 loss in the first set of the night, the Blazers came back with a 26-24 win in the next set. From here, they went on to finish the night with a 25-17 and a 25-18 win in the next two sets.
