CSB, Wartburg scoreless in double overtime

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict and Wartburg College both had chances to score Sunday afternoon, but neither were able to capitalize and the two teams played to a 0-0, double overtime tie.

The tie puts the Blazers at 4-2-2 heading into the second half of its 2015 schedule. Sunday's match in Waverly, Iowa, marked the last nonconference game of the regular season for CSB, which went 2-2-2 against non-MIAC opponents.

Saint Benedict put three shots on Wartburg goalie Beth Crow – including two from Taylor Hedin – in the second overtime, but Crow saved all three shots. The Knights (7-2-1) put a shot on CSB goalie Heather Kaluzniak in the 83rd minute of regulation, but she stopped that to force overtime. Neither team had a shot on net in the first overtime.

Kaluzniak made four saves in the first half and two in the second to keep Wartburg off the board. The Blazers had four shots on goal in the first half and two in the second to go with the three shots in the second overtime. CSB outshot Wartburg 20-11, and held a 9-6 edge in shots on goal.

The Blazers are back at home Wednesday, Sept. 30, when they host Augsburg, the defending MIAC champions. CSB won the league title in 2013, and Augsburg won in 2014. Augsburg is currently 6-1 overall and is also 2-0 in the MIAC. Both teams sit just behind Gustavus, which is currently 3-0 in the MIAC.
