NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team improved to 2-0 in MIAC play Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win over Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
The Knights (3-4-1, 1-1) got on the board early in the match when Ava Lewis on a pass from Annika Martensson from the right side of the field. That goal, which came in the 10
th minute, put the Knights up 1-0.
The Blazers (4-2-1, 2-0) tied the score in the 39
th minute when
Valerie Clintsman scored her third goal of the season. Clintsman, who was on the right side of the field, took a pass from the opposite side of the field from
Ali Ryan-Mosley and beat her defender to tie the game.
The score stayed tied heading into halftime, and neither team scored again until the 78
th minute when
Megan Lenz took a pass from
Gracie Vaughan and used one kick to send the ball past the Carleton keeper and put the Blazers up 2-1.
CSB iced the game with a third and final goal less than a minute later when
Aly Hoffman beat both defenders, took a shot that was saved and then knocked the rebounds in.
Saint Benedict finished the game with an 11-7 edge in shots, including a 7-4 margin in shots on goal.
Heather Kaluzniak made three saves to help the Blazers win. Mikayla Coulombe made four saves for the Knights.
The Blazers return to action Sunday, Sept. 27, when they travel to Waverly, Iowa, to take on Wartburg College. Game time against the Knights, who are 6-2, is 2 p.m.
