About Loras:The Duhawks won four straight IIAC Championships before finishing third in the conference last year. This year, they were picked by the coaches to finish fourth in the always competitive IIAC. After opening their season with a disappointing 5-1 drubbing at the hands of UW Oshkosh, the Duhawks have recovered to win three straight games, scoring 11 goals over those three games. They are led by reigning IIAC offensive MVP Katie Truesdale, who racked up 38 points in 2014.
The Storyline:Although the teams play in separate conferences, they have met in the Blazers' past two NCAA playoff appearances. The Blazers secured a 2-1 victory in 2011 to advance to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, but most recently had their season ended by the Duhwaks in the first round of the 2013 tournament. The Blazers took their revenge in a 3-1 regular season victory over the Duhawks last year, but today will be their first opportunity to defeat Loras on their own home turf.
Last Year:With the 2013 NCAA Tournament fresh in their minds, the Blazers played host to the Duhawks early in the season last year. The Duhawks were the first on the board in that game, when Truesdale scored in the match's 11th minute. Then-sophomore forward
Taylor Hedin responded in the 36th minute when she scored off a pass from Hoffman. In the second half, then-first-year forward
Kelsey Tatarek scored once, and assisted a goal to then-junior midfielder
Peggy Renier, and the Blazers rolled to a 3-1 victory to win their fifth consecutive game.
