ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict softball team's bats came alive in the second game of a MIAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon to help the Blazers split with Concordia. Concordia won the first game 4-3, but the Blazers pulled ahead to take the second game 9-4 on the CSB campus.
 
The Cobbers (9-12, 3-7) scored first with an RBI single in the first inning, but Megan Toninato had an RBI single, Sara Wennerstrand reached on an error and sent in a run and Becky Gigstad had an RBI sac fly in the third inning to put CSB up 3-1. CSB pushed its lead to four, 5-1, in the fourth inning. Kim Lidstone reached on an error and scored on a single by Bailey O'Hotto, and O'Hotto came around to score when Toninato reached on an error.
 
Concordia cut the Blazers' lead to one in the fifth when it loaded the bases and recorded a two-run double and an RBI single, but CSB's bats came alive again in the sixth. Nicole Nelson walked to start the inning, and the Blazers loaded the bases on singles from Lidstone and O'Hotto. Toninato sent in a pair of runs with a two-run double, and Wennerstrand added two more runs with a two-run double of her own to make it a five-run game heading into the final inning. The Cobbers failed to get a runner on base in the seventh and CSB held on for the win.
 
O'Hotto finished 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead CSB, which had 10 total hits. Toninato went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Wennerstrand was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Melissa Seldon threw all seven innings and gave up four runs on seven hits. She struck out five batters.
 
The Blazers (15-11, 4-4) took a 3-0 lead in the second inning of the first game, but couldn't hold that lead. Mackenzie Wenner walked and advanced on a throwing error by the Concordia pitcher, and Jessica Davison was hit by a pitch. Becky Gigstad sent in a run with an RBI single, and Seldon hit a two-run double.
 
The Cobbers used three hits to make it a one-run game, 3-2, in the third inning, and added all the runs they would need with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth.
 
Four players had a single hit for CSB in the first game and the Cobbers finished with 10 hits. Taylor Ellingson took the loss after giving up four runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings. Cassie Meyer threw the final 1.1 innings and gave up a single hit.
 
The Blazers are back at home Sunday, April 12, when they host Macalester at 1 p.m.
