ResultsSARTELL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak Saturday morning when it beat the University of Northwestern 5-4 in a nonconference match at Fitness Evolution in Sartell, Minn.
The Blazers, who are now 3-8 overall, led 2-1 after the doubles competition thanks to a pair of wins at the No. 2 and 3 doubles slots.
Daley Rupar and
Rachel Raden teamed up to defeat their opponents 8-2, and
Victoria Beach and
Taylor Kraemer held on to win 9-7. Northwestern's Bridie Bardwell and Tina Matetich led Beach and Kraemer early in the match, but the CSB duo fought through and held on for the slim victory.
Laura Finn and
Cassy Finn lost 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Northwestern picked up wins at No. 1 and 2 singles as Megan Johnson beat Rupar 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Karen Moe won 7-6, 7-2, 6-3 against
Laura Finn at No. 2, but CSB fought through some tough matches at the 3-5 spots to pull away for the win.
Victoria Beach got the Blazers started with a7-6, 7-4, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles. Krameer won 6-2, 7-6, 7-4 at No. 4 and
Cassy Finn sealed the win for Saint Beneidct with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Raden fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Blazers are on the road and return to MIAC play Sunday, March 22, when they take on Concordia at 4 p.m. in Moorhead, Minn. CSB enters the match 0-2 in conference play so far this season.
