ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team plays its third straight home match Saturday afternoon before hitting the road Sunday. The Blazers host Northwestern (Minn.) at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at Fitness Evolution in Sartell, Minn., before traveling to Moorhead, Minn., to take on Concordia at 4 p.m. Sunday.
The Blazers head into Saturday's match looking to snap a three-match losing streak. Saint Benedict is 2-8 overall heading into the weekend. Last weekend, CSB hosted both UW-Eau Claire and St. Thomas. The Blazers led the Blugolds 2-1 after doubles play, but ended up losing the match 6-3.
Daley Rupar and
Ellen Stensrud both took their singles matches to extra sets at No. 1 and 6 singles, but neither was able to come away with the win. CSB wrapped up the weekend with an 8-1 loss to St. Thomas in a MIAC match.
Juniors
Daley Rupar and
Rachel Raden went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles to lead CSB last weekend. The duo, which was named the Blazer Athletes of the Week, won 8-3 against Eau Claire and 8-4 in the Blazers' lone win against St. Thomas.
Northwestern enters Saturday's match 6-5 overall. The Eagles, who recently returned from Tampa, Fla., are coming off a two-match losing streak. Karen Moe leads the team with a 12-2 singles record, and Moe and Megan Johnson are 9-4 in doubles play.
The Cobbers are 2-5 overall and 0-4 in MIAC play, and are coming off a pair of MIAC losses heading into Sunday. Jade Haseltine and Taylor Peterson each have a pair of singles wins for Concordia and the two are 2-3 in doubles play.
After this weekend's matches, CSB returns home to take on Macalester College at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 29.
