Live Stats and VideoST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team wraps up the 2014-15 season Saturday when it travels to St. Peter, Minn., to take on Gustavus Adolphus in a 1 p.m. game.
About the Gusties: Gustavus sits in third and has wrapped up one of the six playoff spots heading into the final game of the regular season. The Gusties are 17-7 overall and 11-6 in the MIAC and head into Saturday's game on a two-game winning streak. Gustavus has also won four of its last five games. Mikayla Miller leads the Gusties in scoring at 17.1 points per game and Lindsey Johnson also averages double digits (10.5). Miller is second in the conference in scoring. Hannah Howard leads the team with 5.6 rebounds per game.
Last Meeting: The Blazers led by four points with just over two minutes left when the two teams met Jan. 17 in Claire Lynch, but the Gusties used free throws and a big 3-pointer to outscore CSB 5-0 in the final two minutes and pull away for a 55-52 win.
Mattie Lueck had 16 points and
Annie Dittberner finished with 10. The two teams split the season series in 2013-14, with the visitor winning each game.
The Storyline: This is the end of the road for CSB for 2014-15, but the Blazers are looking to pick up one last win to end the season. A win at Gustavus, which is third in the MIAC, would be a big win for CSB this season and would send the team's three seniors –
Elena Koch,
Jordan Falk and
Emily Lueck – out in style. The Gusties have already secured a playoff spot, and are looking to stay at the top of the conference to ensure home-court advantage for as long as possible.
Who to Watch: Junior
Mattie Lueck continues to lead the Blazers and is averaging 14.8 points heading into the final game of the season. That is good for sixth in the MIAC. First year
Abby Miller averages eight points per game and Dittberner is at 7.6 points per game. Lueck also averages 7.1 rebounds per game and
Niki Fokken averages 6.6.
Last Time Out: The Blazers' playoff hopes ended Wednesday with a 47-37 loss to Augsburg at Claire Lynch. CSB was within six, 27-21, at halftime, but scored just 16 second-half points. Lueck finished with 10 points,
