Listen live in St. Cloud 1010 AMST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team kicks off MIAC play Wednesday, Dec. 2, when it hosts Carleton College. The Blazers and Knights open conference play at 7 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall on the CSB campus.
There will be a moment of silence before the start of games across the conference Wednesday night to honor the memory of Bill McKee. McKee, the former Augsburg women's basketball coach, passed away on Aug. 27 after serving the Augsburg and MIAC communities for many years.
About the Knights
Carleton is 2-3 in nonconference play heading into Wednesday's MIAC opener. The Knights are coming off a two-point win over Central on Nov. 28. Carleton, which started 0-2, has won two of its last three games. Anne Hamilton leads Carleton in scoring (12.6) and rebounds per game (7.4) and is second on the team with 2.4 assists per game. Maya Okamoto averages 9.5 points per game and is third in the league with a 53.3 three-point percentage.
Last Meeting
CSB and Carleton split a pair of games last season. The Blazers won 58-49 on Jan. 10 in St. Joseph, and the Knights edged CSB 56-55 on a last-second layup Feb. 14 in Northfield.
Niki Fokken finished with 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Blazers in the loss.
About CSB
The Blazers are 4-1 heading into conference play, marking their best start since 2011-12 when they also started 4-1. CSB is coming off a 62-51 win over UW-Superior on Nov. 24. Saint Benedict was down 25-14 at halftime and made a single two-point field goal in the first half, but came back to defeat the Yellowjackets thanks in large part to 17 second-half points from
Alison Newton. Newton finished with a career-high 20 points and
Grace Wolhowe added 15 points.
Wednesday's game marks the start of a three-game home stretch for CSB. The Blazers host St. Olaf Saturday and Hamline Wednesday, Dec. 9. Saint Benedict travels to Bethel on Dec. 12 for its last game before the holiday break.
