About the Falcons:
The Concordia Falcons play in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Conference (NCHA), a conference which includes No. 2 Adrian and No. 6 Lake Forest. The Falcons were picked to finish fifth in the seven-team conference. Thier season has had mixed success thus far, highlighted by a 9-1 victory over Finlandia and a 4-0 victory over Marian. They come into this game however, riding a four-game losing streak. They are coming off a two-game sweep by St. Norbert's last weekend.
Â
The Storyline:
Both teams played in two of DIII hockey's best conferences. The Blazers are coming off a big win against one of the MIAC's historical powerhouses. Now the Blazers have a chance to continue to build momentum. The Falcons haven't won a game in nearly a month, and their last two victories have come against the NCHA's two worst teams.
Â
Last Time Out:
Last weekend, the Blazers started last weekend with a 2-2 draw against Gustavus. With one minute to play in regular time in that game, junior forward Alison Kirk scored off a pass from Elli Marvin and Katie Cristan to send the game into overtime. Although both teams had chances to win it in overtime, the game ended in a draw.
On Saturday, the Blazers traveled to St. Peter, looking for vengeance after being shutout there last year. The Blazers found themselves in the exact same situation as the previous night with two minutes to play. This time, it was Maddie Rainey who scored an unassisted goal to send the game into overtime. Two and a half minutes into the overtime period Rainey sent a pass to senior forward Siri Berg-Moberg which Berg-Moberg fired into the back of the night to give the Blazers the 3-2 OT upset over Gustavus.
