ST. PAUL, Minn. – An early scoring spree by Hamline University doomed the College of Saint Benedict hockey team Friday night in a MIAC game in St. Paul, Minn. The Pipers scored twice in the minute and a half minutes and beat the Blazers 5-1.
Hamline (2-2-2, 2-0-1 MIAC) scored the first goal of the game at the 1:01 mark when Brede Postier found the back of the net. Britni DelCastillo made it 2-1 13 seconds later when she scored at the 1:14 mark.
That early led held until the second minute of the second period when Chelsea Koehn made it 3-0 for Hamline at the 2:22 mark.
Sophomore
Brigette Miller got the Blazers within two when she scored unassisted on a power play goal at the 10:20 mark of the second period to make it 3-1, but the Pipers added a pair of insurance goals in the third period. Jena Kosley scored at 8:23 of the third and Dana Almquist wrapped up the scoring with a power play goal at 13:23.
CSB (1-4-0, 0-3-0) had 29 shots to Hamline's 40.
Siri Berg-Moberg and
Alexis Klatt each had four shots on net for CSB and Miller and
Elli Marvin added three.
Dory Johnson played the first 22 minutes of the game and made eight saves and gave up three goals. First year
Angel Hillstrom came in early in the second period and made 27 saves for CSB and gave up the final two goals.
The Blazers and Pipers are back in action Saturday, Nov. 21, at 3 p.m. at the MAC in St. Cloud, Minn. This marks the first home game of the year for Saint Benedict.
