ST. CLOUD, Minn. – College of Saint Benedict goalie
Angel Hillstrom set a new career-high for saves Saturday afternoon. Hillstrom, a first year for the Blazer hockey team, stopped 40 shots in CSB's home opener, which it lost 1-0 to the Pipers at the MAC in St. Cloud.
Hillstrom has 129 saves in four games played so far this season for the Blazers. She is 1-2 with a .942 saves percentage.
Saint Benedict (1-5, 0-4 MIAC) and Hamline (3-2-2, 3-0-1) were scoreless for the first two periods and part of the third Saturday afternoon. The Pipers had plenty of chances – they had 17 first-period shots and added 14 more in the second period – but Hillstrom kept them all out of the net.
Hamline finally capitalized in the third period when Jamie Nowicki scored off an assist from Megan Lawry at the 11:22 mark.
Elli Marvin had a shot on net late in the game, and the Blazers pulled Hillstrom from an extra skater late, but they were unable to score and tie the game.
Brigette Miller finished with a team-high seven shots on net for CSB. Marvin and
Liz Hermes each added four. The Blazers had 23 shots to Hamline's 41.
CSB is back at home Friday, Dec. 4, when it hosts Gustavus at 7 p.m. at the MAC.
