ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball captured its 10th consecutive win last weekend with a 3-0 sweep of St. Olaf in Northfield. With this win, the Blazers now sit with an overall record of 12-4 and are 5-0 in conference play. CSB returns home Wednesday, Oct. 7, to face off against Carleton in its fifth straight conference game.
 
About the Knights: The Knights currently sit with a record of 10-6 and have gone 2-3 in conference play. After falling to Hamline by a score of 3-1 in their first conference game of the season, the Knights came back with a 3-2 win over No. 19 Augsburg. In their next conference game, the Knights fell to St. Kate's by a score of 3-1 before taking a 3-1 win over Macalester in their last game. The Knights will be heading into their matchup against the Blazers after winning seven of their last ten games. Lucy Stevens is second in the MIAC with 4.33 kills per set and 251 total kills and libero Camille Benson leads the league with 396 digs and 6.83 digs per set.
 
Last Year: In their last matchup, the Blazers fell to Carleton by a score of 3-1 at home. In the first set, the Knights took a 25-23 win and followed with a 25-20 win in the second set. The Blazers then came back to take a 25-20 win in the third set, and fought hard, but came up short by a score of 27-25 in the fourth and final set. Laura Schmitt and Mary Franz led the Blazers with 11 kills and Franz added another five blocks.
 
The Storyline: The Blazers are heading into this matchup with a lot of momentum and will be looking to extend their winning streak as they continue through their stretch of conference games. The Blazers will also be looking to come back from a tough home loss last season.
 
Who to Watch: Senior Laura Schmitt currently leads the Blazers with 236 kills and sits with 3.69 kills per set. She is fourth in the league in kills per set and fifth in total kills. Meghan Koop is also averaging 2.06 kills per set and leads the team with 260 digs. Lauren Mathews is also leading the team with 52 blocks as Mary Franz adds another 49 on the season. Sophomore setter Megan Pekarek leads the MIAC with 9.42 assists per set. Pekarek and Mathews are the reigning MIAC setter and hitters of the week after career performances last week.
 
Last Time Out: In their last match, the Blazers took a 3-0 win over St. Olaf in Northfield. They started the night with a 25-22 win before taking a close 28-26 win in the second set. From here, the Blazers finished off the Oles with a 25-9 win in the third set. Matthews led the Blazers with a career-high 17 kills and Briana Schmiesing added another 10. Pekarek finished the night with 39 assists and Megan Barta helped the defense with 21 digs.
