CSB basketball beats St. Kate's

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team took a big conference win over the Wildcats of Saint Catherine University Saturday afternoon. With their 73-62 win against St. Kate's, the Blazers now sit with a record of 10-9 and are 7-5 in MIAC play.

The Blazers started the game with a 19-4 run to give them a big lead early in the game. From here, the Wildcats closed the gap as the first half drew to an end and cut the Blazers' lead to 32-29.

In the second half, the Blazers quickly began to widen their lead again and sat with a 42-31 lead after going on a 7-0 run. After another big 10-3 run, the Blazers sat with a comfortable 52-34 lead. The Blazers held onto this lead for the rest of the game as they finished with a score of 73-62.

Mattie Lueck led the Blazers' offense with 14 points and three assists on top of her seven rebounds. Emily Lueck also finished the night with 13 points and seven rebounds. Kate Banovetz helped lead the defense by racking up 13 rebounds and three steals.

The Blazers move on to face off against St. Olaf on Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the Claire Lynch Hall at 7 p.m. With just six games remaining in the regular season, the Blazers will be looking to take advantage of their momentum as they push through conference play with hopes of reaching the post-season.
