SPOKANE, Wash. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team picked up its first win of the season Saturday afternoon when it defeated Whitworth College 1-0 in a nonconference game in Spokane, Wash.

The Blazers (1-1) and Whitworth were tied throughout the first half, but Alyssa Hoffman broke the tie when she scored the lone goal of the game in the 49
th minute early in the second half. That goal proved to be enough as goalie
Megan Favorite saved Whitworth's lone shot on goal to preserve the shutout.

St. Ben's outshot Whitworth 12-7, including a 4-1 margin in shots on goal. Hoffman and
Megan Lenz each had two shots on goal for the Blazers.

The Blazers return to action Saturday, Sept. 6, when they take on UW-Eau Claire in Eau Claire, Wis., as part of a two-game road trip. St. Ben's plays its first home game of the year Saturday, Sept. 13, when it takes on Wartburg (Iowa) at 12:30 p.m. at St. John's University in Collegeville, Minn.
