About the Auggies:
Augsburg was picked to finish sixth in the conference by the coaches' preseason poll, but is currently tied for second in the conference. They are led by a stingy defense that is giving up less than one goal per conference game. On defense they are led by Allen, who recently transferred to the school after being named All-MIAC at Bethel in 2013-14.
Â
Storyline:
How will the Blazers respond to a tough loss against River-Falls? The Auggies are on a three-game win streak, the Blazers on a three-game loss streak. The Blazers are averaging almost a full goal per game better than the Auggies on offense (2.66 to the Auggies 1.88), but the Auggies defense has been lights out of late, giving up just 0.98 goals per game. Key to the victory for the Blazers will be not giving up chances on the power play.
Â
Last Time Out:
On Tuesday, the Blazers hosted the No. 7 Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons. The Falcons are hitting on all cylinders right now, and went up 4-0 in the first-period, and eventually won the game 9-2. Marvin and first-year forward Kimberly Patterson scored goals for the Blazers. Traut and junior forward Dory Johnson combined for 40 saves against the high-powered Falcon offense.
Â
Last Year:
In 2013, the Blazers and the Auggies split their season series. The Blazers won the friday-night cap, routing the Auggies 4-1. The two teams traveled to Minneapolis for the Saturday game, where Augsburg enacted their revenge, defeating the Blazers 4-0. The Blazers outshot the Auggies 40-18 in the first game, and 63-50 in the series.
