Blazers try for first MIAC win Saturday at St. Kate's

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After improving its record to 3-4 with a win over Martin Luther Tuesday, the Saint Benedict basketball team heads to St. Paul Saturday, Dec. 13, to take on St. Kate's in its third MIAC match of the season. The Blazers tip off at 3 p.m. and are looking for their first road win of the season.
 
About the Wildcats: The Saint Catherine Wildcats come into this matchup with a 6-2 overall record. After starting the season 4-1, the Wildcats began their conference season with a 66-62 win over Bethel. They followed that game a 61-51 loss to Gustavus and currently sit with a conference record of 1-1.
 
Last Year: In their matchup last season, the Blazers' comeback fell just short as they walked away with a tough 70-69 loss. After trailing 40-30 at halftime, the Blazers fought back to get within one point as time expired. Mattie Lueck led the team with six rebounds and Annie Dittberner added eight points.
 
The Storyline: The Blazers will head to the Wildcats' home court with a conference record of 0-2. This will be their last conference game before heading to the Wartburg Holiday Tournament. The Blazers will be fighting for their first conference win of the season as the Wildcats look to break over .500 in MIAC play.
 
Who to Watch: Mattie Lueck is leading the Blazers with 14.4 points per game, 57 overall rebounds and three assists per game. Abby Miller also adds 10.4 points per game and leads the team with a .880 free throw percentage. Emily Lueck is averaging 8.4 points per game and 2.5 assists.
 
Last Time Out: In their last matchup, the Blazers came back after a slow first half to take the 47-42 win over Martin Luther College. At halftime, the Blazers were down by a score of 21-15. In the second half, the Blazers tripled their score to take the win. Mattie Lueck finished the night with 16 points and five blocks. She also led the team with 15 rebounds and four steals. Macy Kelly also totaled 11 rebounds and six points.
