About the Cardinals:
Saint Mary's was picked to finish seventh in the conference, two spots ahead of Saint Ben's. Four games into the season, they have already been through the wringer, having lost twice to No. 9 Wisconsin-Superior and notching a loss and a draw against No. 8 St. Thomas. Saint Benedict is the first not-nationally ranked team they will play this season. They are led by senior forward Breanna Peterson, who was All-MIAC in 2014 and 2013.
Â
Last Year:
In 2013, the Blazers dropped two at home against the Cardinals. They were outscored 1-7 in those two games. Peterson led the Cardinal scoring with one goal and two assists. In the Friday night opener, the Blazers gave up two goals in the second period and were unable to mount a comeback in the third. At the Saturday afternoon matineé, the Blazers spent 12 minutes on the penalty-kill and gave up two goals on power plays to eventually lose 0-4.
Â
The Storyline:
After four conference wins last season, the Blazers already have a chance this weekend to equal their conference win total from last year. The Cardinals meanwhile, have yet to win a game this season and will be looking to get their season on track. Both teams have missed the playoffs the past few years, a win or sweep this weekend would be huge in allowing either team to move towards becoming a playoff contender.
