Young, Bierman, Peterson each win two events for Blazers at Moorhead

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Three members of the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team won two events Friday night in a dual with Minnesota State University-Moorhead, an NCAA Division II program, in Moorhead, Minn.

Those six wins weren't enough, however, as the Blazers lost 200.5-98.5 to the Dragons. Friday night marked the first dual meet of the year for Saint Benedict.

Kenzie Young, Steph Bierman and Laura Peterson all won two events to lead the Blazers. Young, a first year, won both the 500 and 1,000 freestyle races. She won the 500 in 5:29.28 and the 1,000 in 11:13.62 – the eighth-fastest time in Blazer history.

Bierman, a junior, won the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Bierman won the 50 in 25.48 seconds and the 100 in 56 seconds. Peterson, a senior, took home individual titles in the 100 and 200 butterfly. She finished the 100 in 1:01.73 and the 200 in 2:20.15.

"The team did an awesome job competing hard from start to finish," head coach Dan Eckberg said. "I am very proud of their efforts and now we turn our attention to competing just as hard against Concordia (Saturday). All of the individual winners had to push themselves mentally and physically to get the job done. I really think that, along with others who out-touched opponents, set the tone for the meet."

Saint Benedict is back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday against MIAC rival Concordia, also in Moorhead, Minn.
