Saturday's Live Video

DE PERE, Wis. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team kicked off its season by scoring the first goal of the game against St. Norbert College, but the Green Knights took advantage of power play opportunities and eventually pulled away for a 4-2 win in De Pere, Wis.

Kimberly Patterson scored the first goal of her collegiate career to put CSB (0-1) up 1-0 on the Green Knights 12 minutes into the first period. That lead held until the 1:35 mark of the second period when Myranda Hayes scored for St. Norbert to tie the game 1-1.

The Green Knights added a power play goal by Katie Conlon at 4:08, and Jillian Kosteck scored a short-handed goal at the 8:46 mark of the second period to go up 3-1 heading into the final period.

Stephanie Kirk, who led the Blazers in scoring as a first year in 2013-14, got her first goal of the season off assists from Maddie Rainey and Elli Marvin on a Blazer power play six minutes into the third period to get CSB within one, 3-2. The Green Knights added an insurance goal at 15:36 when Kylie Gazzolo scored her first goal of the season on a power play to make it 4-2 with less than five minutes left to play. The Blazers pulled goalie Jenna Traut in the final minute, but it wasn't enough.
