Box ScoreMINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Through its first 14 games of the season, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team held opponents scoreless in 11 of its 12 victories. Saturday night, the Blazers were on the other side of the scoreless game.
The Blazers picked up just their third loss of the season Saturday when they fell 3-0 to Augsburg College in a MIAC contest in Minneapolis, Minn. With three games left in the regular season, Saint Benedict is now 12-3 overall and tied for third with the Auggies with a 6-2 MIAC record.
Carleton and Concordia are currently tied for first in the MIAC with 6-1-1 league records.
The Blazers and Auggies were scoreless at halftime, and CSB held a 9-5 edge in shots. Just two minutes into the second half, Augsburg broke the scoreless tie when Olivia Muyres scored off a pass from Carter Denison. Muyres scored again in the 52
nd minute, this time off an assist from Molly Allen, and the two connected again in the 70
th minute to complete the hat trick for Muyres.
Saint Benedict failed to score despite putting second shots on goal in the second half. Auggie goalkeeper Marissa Guillou made 10 saves to keep the Blazers off the board.
CSB outshot Augsburg 22-13, including a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.
Heather Kaluzniak made five saves for the Blazers.
Gracie Vaughan put three shots on goal for Saint Benedict and
Taylor Hedin, Alyssa Hoffman and
Jenna Kleason each had two shots on net.
The Blazers have three games left in the 2014 regular season. They travel to Winona, Minn., on Oct. 25 to take on Saint Mary's, and host St. Kate's Wednesday, Oct. 29, and Concordia on Saturday, Nov. 1 in the final game of the regular season.
