COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team added another notch in the win column Saturday afternoon when it shut out Bethel University 2-0.
The Blazers improved to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the MIAC. Saint Benedict is on a two-game winning streak and has won 11 of its last 12 games.
The first 30 minutes of Saturday's game was scoreless, and the Royals (1-7-3, 1-5) actually had several early chances to score, but Blazer goalkeeper
Heather Kaluzniak kept the ball out of the net and Bethel off the scoreboard.
CSB took control midway through the half, and got on the board in the 34
th minute when
Sydney Bramer scored her first goal of the season to put the Blazers up 1-0.
Gracie Vaughan put a shot up on Bethel goalie Micale Jensen, and Jensen made the save, but Bramer took control of the rebound and found the back of the net.
Three minutes later, the Blazers scored again when Alyssa Hoffman netted her fifth goal of the game in the 37
th minute off an assist from
Kelsey Tatarek.
The 2-0 score held for the remainder of the half, and the game. Kaluzniak made four second-half saves for the Blazers as Bethel had 10 shots.
Saint Benedict outshot the Royals 20-12, including an 8-5 margin in shots on goal. Kaluzniak finished with five saves.
The Blazers are back at home Tuesday, Oct. 14, when they host St. Thomas at 4 p.m.
