St. Cloud, Minn. – The Saint Benedict hockey team suffered its fifth straight loss tonight (Jan. 24), falling to St. Catherine University by a score of 3-1. With the loss, the Blazers dropped to 4-12-0 on the year, with a conference record of 1-8-0.

The first period started out very close with each team taking nine shots and each goalie standing tall in a scoreless first.
Siri Berg-Moberg led the Blazers with three shots in the first period and
Kacee Medved added another two.
Dory Johnson took nine saves in the period.

Aly Hoffman gave the Blazers a 1-0 lead with a goal just over five minutes into the second period with assists from
Maddie Rainey and
Megan Lawry. The Wildcats (8-6-1, 5-3-1 MIAC) then responded with two goals from Hannah Okerstrom and Bailey Rasmussen in less than two minutes to take a 2-1 lead. The Wildcats once again finished with nine shots in the second period as the Blazers finished with seven.Â

In the third period, the Wildcats extended their lead with a goal from Shelby Salmonsen with the assist from Hannah Okerstrom just under three minutes in.
Megan Brettingen,
Tara Frey and
Elli Marvin all gave the Blazers two shots in the period as Johnson added another six saves.

The Blazers finished the night with 27 shots compared to the Wildcat's 25 as goalie
Dory Johnson totals 22 saves. Brettingen led the Blazers with four shots with four other Blazers adding another three shots each.
Stephanie Kirk and
Alli O'Brien each gave the Blazers nine faceoff wins.

The Blazers will go on to face the Wildcats again tomorrow (Jan. 25) at 3 p.m. in St. Paul. They will be skating hard to take a tie in the series and add another conference win to their record.
