Moorhead, Minn. – The Saint Benedict hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision on the road Friday night (Jan. 17) to Concordia.

The Cobbers (3-8-3, 2-4-1 MIAC) outshot the Blazers (4-10-0, 1-6-0 MIAC) 15-to-4 in the first period, and were in control all game. They got on the board first with a power play goal at the 10:52 mark of the first and never trailed, sending the Blazers to their second straight shutout.

Concordia would go on to outshoot the Blazers 36-to-13 on the night, holding CSB to its lowest shot total of the season. The Cobbers' 36 shots meanwhile, were the most the Blazers have allowed since Saint Mary's took 37 in the fourth game of the season.

The Blazers took four penalties in the game, leading to a pair of Cobber goals, as Concordia went 2-of-4 on the power play, while killing off all three Saint Benedict opportunities.

The first goal of the game came with the man advantage, as the Cobbers scored just 40 seconds into the game's first power play for the eventual game winner.

They got their second at 7:21 of the second period, and then later in the period scored on the power play again for the final 3-0 score.

The Blazer offense – which has put up over 30 shots six times this season, and over 20 in all but two games – was held to just four, three and six shots in the three periods respectively.

Dory Johnson (Bovey, Minn.) got her second straight start in net, and stopped a career high 33 shots, including 13 in the third period as she held the Cobbers off the board.

It's the first time all season the Blazers have been shutout in back-to-back games, and just their fourth shutout all season. Alli O'Brien (Stillwater, Minn.) and Allison Kirk (Minnetonka, Minn.) each led the Blazers with three shots apiece.

The same two teams will meet again tomorrow, as the Blazers look to get back it the scoring column and earn the weekend split. The puck is set to drop at 2 p.m. in Moorhead.
