Moorhead, Minn. – A day after falling to Concordia, the Saint Benedict hockey team met a similar fate again today (Jan. 18), as they fell 3-0 again, on the road to the Cobbers.
Â
The difference this time was that the Blazer offense came alive, racking up 33 shots on the day, outshooting the Cobbers (4-8-3, 3-4-1 MIAC) on the game.
Â
The Blazers (4-11-0, 1-7-0 MIAC) held a 17-to-14 edge in shots after the first, but it was the Cobbers who came out on top in the scoring column.
Â
After connecting for two power play goals on Friday, Concordia did it again, opening the game with a first period goal after the Blazers were a player down. At the 8:20 minute mark of the first period, the Cobbers were on the board, with what would eventually be the game winner.
Â
The only period where the Blazers were outshot was the second, as the Cobbers took a 13-to-5 advantage, while scoring their second of the game at the 19:21 mark.
Â
In the third and trailing 2-0, the Blazers really turned up the heat, outshooting the Cobbers 11-to-5 in the session as they looked to get back in the game.
Â
In a Blazer power play early in the third, the Blazers rifled off three quick shots, and had six in the period before the Cobbers took their first.
Â
Unfortunately, though, the Cobbers got their third goal on just their second shot of the period, and were on their way to the 3-0 win for the second straight night.
Â
The Blazers will now return home as they look to break out of their four-game losing streak. They host St. Catherine at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24, before heading to St. Paul to take on the Wildcats at 3 p.m., Jan. 25.
