This Week: The Saint Benedict basketball team locked up win No. 600 for head coach Mike Durbin on Wednesday, and now will look for win No. 601 when they host St. Olaf at 3 p.m., Jan. 11 in Claire Lynch Hall. The Blazers enter at 6-4 on the year and 3-4 in MIAC play, needing a win to get back to the .500 mark. The Oles meanwhile enter with an identical 6-4 overall record, but are a game better in MIAC action with a 4-3 league mark.

About the Oles: The Oles will be coming into this weekend riding a two-game losing skid, the first time all season they've dropped back-to-back games. After starting 6-2, and 4-1 in conference play, they fell to perennial powers, Concordia (83-57) and St. Thomas (75-54), with each setback coming at home. Their MIAC wins on the year have come over Carleton, Augsburg, St. Kate's and Gustavus, and they have been able to win high scoring (73-70 over Carleton) and low scoring (59-53 over St. Kate's) games. They average 63.4 points point game which ranks ninth in the conference, but they have scored at least 64 points in five of their six wins. Kim Cerjan leads three players averaging double figures, with her 14.7 points per game also ranking sixth in the MIAC.

Last Year: The Blazers swept the season series last year, winning 72-56 in Northfield in mid-January, before closing out the regular season with a 60-58 win at home. In their first match-up on the road, the Blazers used 12 three-pointers to run away with the win, sprinting out to a 35-21 halftime lead before cruising in the second half. In the second meeting in Claire Lynch Hall, it was an entirely different story. The Oles led 34-18 at the break, before the Blazers used a 42-24 scoring margin in the second half to score the comeback win. The Oles led for the first 35:49, before the Blazers took their first lead with just 4:11 left to play in the game.

The Storyline: Can the Blazers take advantage of a slumping Ole squad to get back to .500 in league play? The MIAC season is still young, but the Blazers can't afford to fall too far behind if they hope to be in the playoff race when February rolls around. With the Oles just a game ahead in the standings, this is an important game to maintain pace. With the Ole's currently in their only losing streak of the season, the Blazers can capitalize and pull even with them in the standings.

Who to Watch: Morgan Dale (Jamestown, N.D.) is the leading rebounder in the MIAC and her 11.9 boards per game also rank No. 29 in the country. Five times in 10 games she has racked up double-digit rebounds, which included a CSB record 21 against Bethel last week. She also has three double-doubles this season. Tish Alexander (Minneapolis) is currently fourth on the team in scoring, and is having a career year at 9.6 points per game. Last season against the Oles, she scored in double figures in each game, including a career high 22 in the regular season finale. And on the defensive end, her 31 steals this season rank second in the MIAC. Brianna Barrett (Annandale, Minn.) continues to lead the Blazers in scoring, averaging 13.9 points per game. She also went over 800 in her career against Macalester, and is closing in on 1,000 career points with 808 in her four years.

Last Time Out: The Blazers locked up win No. 600 for head coach Mike Durbin earlier this week, scoring a 65-40 win over Macalester on Jan. 8. They never trailed, and after a 10-0 run during the game's early minutes, they were in control all night. Morgan Dale and Emily Lueck led the way with 13 points each, while Brainna Barrett added 11. Ten different players scored in all for the Blazers, as Coach Durbin became the 12th coach in DIII history to rack up 600 wins.
