La Crosse, Wis. – Led by a two-goal performance from
Aly Hoffman, the Saint Benedict soccer team notched a 3-0 win over Wisconsin-La Crosse today (Sept. 1) to cap the opening weekend of the season.
Hoffman scored the game's first and final goals, charting her third career two goal game. She took an assist from
Colleen Bouchard in the 35th minute, opening the scoring and sending home the eventual game-winner.
Then, with just over two minutes left in the game, she added her second, this time from Cassandra Miedema to put the cap on the Blazers 3-0 win and overall impressive effort.Â
Also scoring was
Kristina Burk, adding some insurance to put the Blazers up 2-0 in the 73rd minute. She also scored off an assist from Bouchard, with Bouchard tallying multiple assists for just the second career time.
For Burk, after the defender went without a goal throughout the entire 2012 season, she didn't have to wait long into 2013, getting on the board for the first time since Oct. 29, 2011.
In goal,
Megan Favorite notched her 12th career shutout, stopping all five shots she saw. She was aided by an offense that controlled the possession all day, putting up 19 shots as they kept their possession in the attacking zone for much of the day. The win was also the 18th of Favorite's career.
Hoffman led the offense with seven total shots on the day, while Bouchard added four, with the pair teaming up for over half of the Blazer's attempts.Â
Now at 1-0-1 on the season, the Blazers will continue their season-opening road swing next weekend when they head to Iowa to take on Wartburg and Luther on Sept. 7 and 8 respectively. Each game is set for a 1 p.m. start.
