Lakeville, Minn. – The Saint Benedict tennis team suffered a rough 9-0 loss on Sunday (Apr. 21) to Carleton, the No.8 ranked team in the region.
The Knights made quick work of doubles play, winning all three matches by 8-2 scores or better.
In singles action
Beth Richmond at No. 5 had the closest match of the day, as she fell 6-3, 6-4.
The powerful Knights took a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over
Jamie Hoffman at No. 2 singles, and a 6-0, 6-1 win over
Rachel Raden at No. 6.
Playing just her second career match at No. 1,
Daley Rupar fell 6-1, 6-1, as did
Ellie Black at No 4. Rupar also had her season and team best six match winning streak snapped with the loss.
The Blazers drop their first 9-0 match of the year, and for the first time have lost three straight, after previously winning six of seven.
They will take a break from conference play on Tuesday (Apr. 23), hosting St. Scholastica in nonconference action at 7 p.m. Then, next weekend they close out the MIAC scheduled looking to get back on track as they head to St. Peter on Apr. 27, and host Saint Mary's on Apr. 28.
