Sartell, Minn. – A three set match, and a two point decision were a pair of the near-miss-matches that went against the Blazers tonight (Mar. 8) as they dropped a close 5-4 decision at home to Bethel.

The Blazers (2-2, 0-2 MIAC) split with the Royals in singles play, but it wasn't enough for the win as CSB found themselves trailing 2-1 after doubles action. The Blazers top doubles team of Jamie Hoffman and Daley Rupar lost a close 8-6 decision that would have turned the tables the other way, while in singles play, Rupar was on the wrong end of a three-set match that could have also been the difference.

The Royals (3-4, 2-3 MIAC) win for just the second time in their last six matches, while also gaining their first victory over the Blazers after seven consecutive losses.

They started on their way to the win with the victory at No. 1 doubles over Hoffman and Rupar, handing them, their second straight 8-6 loss. The Royals also scored a win at No. 3 doubles, with Victoria Beach and Ellie Black at No. 2 doubles taking an 8-5 decision for the Blazers' first win.

The Blazers got a string of wins in singles play but they could have used more, as their run from three through five came up just one short.

Beach got back in the win column at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 decision, while Beth Richmond and Black each followed up with wins as well.

Richmond won a routine match, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, while Black came back from a first set loss (6-7) to score a win in three, cruising to 6-2 and 10-1 wins in the second and third sets respectively.

On the wrong end of three set match, was Rupar, who won the first set 6-3, before going on to lose the next two 4-6 and 7-10, in maybe  the closest match of the day.

Finishing just one decision shy of a win, the Blazers drop their second straight to open MIAC play, but get right back to work tomorrow, hosting Macalester at 1 p.m.
