St. Cloud, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team took to the ice for their  first conference game of the year as they took on St. Olaf College (1-2-0, 1-0-0 MIAC) at the friendly confines of the MAC.

The Blazers (0-2-0, 0-1-0 MIAC) started the game strong as the time of possession remained relatively even throughout the first period but one of ten first period shots from the Oles snuck past senior goaltender Kaitlyn Rolando, putting the Oles on top 1-0 with five minutes remaining in the first period.

The second period started slowly as the Blazers let in another goal off a shot from Katie Moeller for the Oles, putting the Blazers at a 2-0 deficit.

The first-year center, Stephanie Kirk, showed her goal-scoring ability once again as she netted two goals for the Blazers, evening the score at 2 apiece.

This is Kirk's second multi-goal game in just as many career games, giving her four goals on the year.

Much like Kirk's first career goal against St. Norbert on Nov. 2, both of her goals were assisted by fellow first-year Ellie Marvin. These assists were Marvin's second and third assists of the year.

Early in the third period, Siri Berg-Moberg, a sophomore forward for the Blazers, laid a hit on one of the St. Olaf players with the puck that was deemed by the referees to be a hit to the head. At 2:09 in the third period, Berg-Moberg was ejected from the game with a game misconduct based on a hit to the head.

Shortly thereafter, the Oles scored with the Blazers reeling from the loss of Berg-Moberg and amidst a five minute penalty. Margot Fleming was the scorer off an assist from Shea Noerenberg.

This third goal proved to be the dagger as the Blazers attempted to fight back with 16 third period shots, none of which were able to find the back of the net.

The Blazers outshot the Oles 44-24, an indication of their offensive firepower but Sam Ubl proved to be too strong as she turned away 42 of the 44 shots.

The Blazers will face the Oles once again at 7:30 on Nov. 16 in Northfield, Minn.
